Lochtags is an NFC-based lost item recovery service for individuals and businesses. Each tag is a small, durable NFC chip — smaller than a quarter — that attaches to your key ring, bag, or piece of equipment.
When someone finds your lost item and taps the tag with their smartphone, they're directed to a secure, private contact page. They leave their name and message. You receive an instant notification. No strangers get your phone number. No apps needed. No batteries, ever.
The idea was born from a recurring frustration: people lose their keys, a good-hearted stranger finds them, and there's no safe way to reconnect the two. Lochtags closes that gap permanently.
Near Field Communication (NFC) is the same technology behind tap-to-pay at a retail terminal. The same chip that lets you pay with your phone at a grocery store can direct a good Samaritan back to the owner of a lost key ring.
Each Lochtag contains only a short, unique identifier — no personal data is written to the chip itself. Even if someone tried to clone the tag, they'd get nothing useful.
When a smartphone taps the tag, it reads the code and opens a URL in the phone's default browser. The whole interaction takes under two seconds.
The code is looked up in our secure system, which displays a simple contact form. The finder submits their details, and the tag owner is notified immediately by email.
