Short answer: yes. And if the tap does not work, the printed code always does.

Yes. The Chip NXP NTAG216 is sealed in a hard epoxy coating, so it is waterproof and built to take daily knocks, and it is rated for 100,000+ taps. The 7-character backup code is printed onto the NTAG216 inlay itself and then encapsulated inside the tag's hard epoxy body (about 4 mm thick), so it is sealed in rather than marked on the outside.
